John Burton

With more than forty years' experience of working in and managing social care, most of it in care homes, John Burton is an acknowledged expert on care practice and management. He has managed a variety of care homes and headed a voluntary organisation running homes. He has been an inspector and teacher, an advocate for residents and relatives, and a campaigner for improving standards in care homes.
But John also understands from his own hard won experience that achieving high standards of care is a lot more difficult than it sounds.

As the author of two books, many chapters and countless articles, John is a well-known writer on care home practice and management. He is a trained and experienced consultant and supervisor, having helped many organisations, large and small, to evaluate their services and to improve them.
John's approach is constructive, collaborative and encouraging. Backed by years of successful experience, he believes that care homes are an essential service. He is an enthusiast for supporting and developing your service, not doing away with it.
